We believe quality of midlife matters
Right when we should be in our prime, and often are at the peak of our careers, perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms can significantly impact our day-to-day quality of life.
Symptoms can be wide ranging, impacting both our physical and mental well-being, and many come as a surprise. They include low energy, reduced libido, feeling overwhelmed, broken sleep, hot flushes, dry skin, thinning hair, brain fog, heart palpitations and body shape changes. There can also be a longer term impact on the health of our breasts, bones and brains.
The menopause is inevitable but it doesn’t have to derail our lives. How we deal with it is a choice.
The menopause is complex
While the menopause itself is about ovarian function, there are many contributors to menopause symptoms.
As our ovaries slow and then cease sex hormone production, our adrenal glands should step in to produce background levels of sex hormones. However, modern lifestyles and stresses can dramatically affect how well this happens.
Our health also plays a part. For example, Hypothyroidism and Insulin Resistance can exacerbate menopause symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain and hot flushes. Lifestyle choices such as diet, alcohol and exercise are also contributing factors.
With so many complex interconnections, a one-size-fits-all approach isn’t enough.
